Risen
by John Stupp
On Sunday night
in the foundry
millwrights banged the broken furnace
at the far end of the plant
they were laughing
and drinking
lights flickered
scrap metal bounced on the floor
upstairs
the superintendent prayed the rosary with Bishop Sheen
his fingers moved like a card sharp
he said Ireland rose on Easter with Jesus
and took over the world
but left the rest of us
in hell
in the morning clean-up
the whiskey labels showed a horse going over a fence
legs up in a blue sky
not even Henry Ford could stop him from rising
